Playschool: Ready, Set, Grow!

Kilkenny Playschool is a community owned, parent-run cooperative offering programs for children 3 and 4 years of age. Classes are held in the Kilkenny Community League Hall located at 14910 72 street. We are a self-funded, non-profit organization supported by registration fees and fundraising activities.

The Playschool provides a quality preschool program that enhances the overall development of children through the creation of a positive self-concept, encouraging a love of learning and developing the skills to play and interact cooperatively in a group setting. These objectives are fulfilled through a “learn through play” environment with an emphasis on the social, emotional, physical, creative and intellectual development of each child. By providing a “learn through play” environment, each child can learn and develop at an individual pace while still benefiting from being part of a group.

Within an environment that is safe, friendly and stimulating, the children are provided with “free-play” time. The child may choose his or her own area to play with toys, puzzles or games, the activity centers, participate in a craft or select a quiet area for reading or just being alone. During circle time, the children are involved in singing, group discussions and stories that enable them to learn about themselves and the world. The teacher will provide good supervision and guidance at all times, encouraging participation and praising achievements and good behavior. To accentuate the learning and fun environment of the Playschool, students will experience field-trips, theme based activities and specially designated days such as color days, pajama day or beach day. In addition, all special occasions and holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc. will be celebrated with parties or specific activities. Outside play is also an important part of the curriculum.
